The ballerina who wouldn't smile

We spent the morning at McKenna's dress rehearsal for her ballet recital tomorrow. Do you see that face? She didn't crack a smile the entire time she was on stage.
This was the biggest smile I got out of her all day.
It was just a little overwhelming for her. I didn't tell her that there were going to be a lot of people there (there are 250 students in this program) because that would have scared her to death. So when we got there and she saw tons of people she just sort of froze up...until she was on stage!

She really, really knew what she was doing up there. She didn't smile, but she didn't even need to watch her teacher. She just did what she was supposed to do, that is, until one of the kids in her group lost a shoe and then everyone was distracted. Hopefully that won't happen tomorrow during her real recital.

Maybe she's getting it all out of her system.now and will be much more relaxed tomorrow for the real thing!!! :)

After the rehearsal I asked McKenna if she felt a little shy when she was doing her dance. She told me flat out, "NO", I was fine. I think she was just concentrating on what she knew she was supposed to do. I thought it was precious and I'm so glad I got to see her perform. I'm sorry that I have to miss the "real" recital.
