The basement, the bar and Lightning McQueen

Have I ever showed you our basement?? Probably not b/c honestly I'm hardly ever down there. But it is nice and cozy in the winter because of the stove over in the corner. So I'm starting to think about painting it.

It desperately needs some paint. The previous owners had the walls covered with stuff (surround sound speakers, shelves, pictures, lights) you name it...they had it on the wall. So now there are tons of holes which my father spackled for us (some were over 2 inches in diameter). Any color suggestions??? I'm not going to do white or khaki. Half of my house upstairs is khaki.

Do you see the wall behind that chair (the chair that Ryan acquired during college for 5 bucks and he refuses to ever let us get rid of it!!! He let me put it in a yard sale once but he said he had to get $30 for it. Hello....like anyone would by $30 for that chair. So now we affectionately call it "the green chair of doom" and I have come to terms with the fact that it will be a part of my decor until the day I die)? That wall seriously needs some paint. We had to spackle almost the entire thing.

And this is the bar that we acquired with the house. In the last 9 months we've used it once during a super bowl party we had. So I decided to come up with a new use for it.....

Ta Da!!!! It's the craft bar! We've used it every single day since I transformed it!! Christian loves it!

Look what we made today! McKenna's is the one on the right. Please notice how she wrote her "name" in the bottom left hand corner of her paper. I think it's adorable!

Just wanted you to see how truly green the "green chair of doom" really is. I know...you're jealous. And that gives you a good look at the rugs I have down there that I'm planning on keeping. So the paint needs to sort of go with them.

And here is our very serious Wii player! He's good at it and loves it, so we have to limit his time on it. He always asks permission before playing and I think that overall it's been a really positive thing for us to have. It allows me to take a nap occasionally :)

And just because I know you're dying to see what Christian is playing...here it is!! He asked me to take these pictures and to share them with you.

Your welcome :)

This weekend....

  • Powerwashed the patio for (4) hours.
  • Christian scored (3) goals during his soccer game.
  • Cheered a lot
  • Ryan mowed and mowed some more.
  • And he's become the official kitchen floor cleaner (so I don't have to bend over :) I guess there are some perks to pregnancy!!!!!!!!!
  • We went to a neighborhood picnic. So thankful we took the time to do it. Knowing your neighbors is valuable!!
  • Painted the hallway upstairs.
  • Taught Sunday school.
  • Held a Praise Team practice for our elementary students at church.
  • Hosted the softball team for a picnic.
  • Ryan figured out how to run cable outside so he and his buddies could watch football and eat :)
  • Felt the baby move.
  • Lost my voice over and over again (I've been fighting some sort of bug for a week now).
  • Made 10 Christmas cards for FREE on shutterfly (sorry...the promotional code already expired).

And it's no wonder I'm tired. Today the only thing I'm going to do is laundry. And maybe take a nap and kill all flies that made their way into our house this weekend (so far I've killed three while writing this post...yes, it's that bad). It's a rainy day. Our first in a long, long time. It just makes you want to snuggle up and go to sleep. Now if only I could convince Christian that this is what rainy days are for.

Second Trimester Happiness :)

I had another great baby doctor appointment yesterday!!! I'm officially 15 weeks today! And I am feeling so much better! I've been getting a ton of headaches, like really bad ones....but other than that I'm feeling great. I took some prescription medication for about two weeks because I just couldn't handle the nausea anymore, but I'm off all of that now and am embracing the second trimester!!

October 28th is our big day!!! That's when all of us (including the kids) will crowd into a tiny little dark room and find out if we're having a boy or a girl! I can hardly wait. We are a house divided about the gender of this baby. I really think it's a girl and Ryan really thinks it's a boy. McKenna keeps talking about a sister and Christian is pretty sure it's a brother. What do you think?

The name debate is in full swing. My sister is continually sending me text messages with name ideas. I'm pretty set on a girl name, but I have no clue on a boy name. Boys are so much harder to name (in my opinion). Ryan just keeps telling me we'll just worry about it after we know if we're having a boy or a girl. I still like to have a back up name in place just in case the ultrasound tech ends up being wrong :)

And here's a picture of the big brother and sister (just because I couldn't have a post with no pictures).

Christian's soccer premiere!

Saturday was such a special day for Christian!
Not only was it his FIRST SOCCER GAME!
But all of his grandparents were there (a rare treat)!

And Christian scored TWO GOALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He was so proud and so beyond excited that his team won!
We all loved watching him!

I guess I was a little surprised that he actually seemed to know what he was doing.

Soccer games are definitely entertaining when 4 and 5 year olds are playing! I think I'm really going to enjoy this season.
This picture is a TREASURE!!!
What a great morning!

And then they played ball...

Grammy and Grampy arrived last Thursday night all the way from Illinois! I don't think Grampy had a clue what was in store for him.
Christian wanted to play ball with him just about every waking moment that he was here!
Grampy was a good sport.
And when they were done playing outside, they went inside to play ball on the Wii.

This boy has a slight obsession and it's all his daddy's fault.

McKenna...the spectator!

And this guy is quite proud of the obsession he's created in his son :)

I have a feeling I'll be taking hundreds of pictures just like this one.
Thanks for being such a great sport Grampy!

A New Year

Christian started another year of preschool last week. It was really no big deal for him. This was the only picture he would even cooperate for. I have no regrets about the decision to send him to preschool for an extra year, although it was an extremely difficult decision for us to make. We're going a lot of school work at home, since preschool is not that challenging for him (at least so far). At home he's been very interested in math, specifically addition. So we're sticking with what he's interested in and we're doing some math everyday! Maybe he'll be super in math just like his daddy. Tonight he asked me if 2+1+2= 5!

An Update!

My goodness Fall seems to be busy so far, but I'm loving the cooler temperatures! And I'm even starting to get excited about the holidays! Have you started Christmas shopping yet??? I have. I know, I'm insane!

  • Christian loves soccer and has his first real game this Saturday!
  • McKenna had an ENT visit today and they took one of her tubes out! Yikes!! It was a little nerve racking for me (probably because I was holding her head when they put what looked like an ice pick into her ear), but McKenna kept it together and immediately asked for a sticker and a lollipop. That's my girl!!!
  • Christian started another year of preschool. It was no big deal to him, so I barely documented it. I'm happy we're getting back into a routine.
  • Ryan's parents are coming all the way from Illinois for a visit this weekend (they should arrive sometime tonight). The kids are beyond excited about this and have been talking about all the things they're going to do with Grammy and Grampy! I hope Grammy and Grampy are bringing lots of energy with them.
  • I have been feeling this tiny little baby move around a lot!!! It seems so early to be feeling anything, but I feel pretty confident that I been feeling little flutters here and there for about two weeks. Yesterday I was certain that there was a little baby in there kicking me :)
  • I'm going to enjoy those tiny kicks from a baby who can't cause me problems while I can because my oldest two children are giving me lots of grief and spending lots of time in time-out. Disobedience and defiance is the name of the game around here and it probably is because I've been slacking off on the discipline because I've just been too tired to deal with it. My dear children recognize their mother's fatigue at a moments notice and at that point take full advantage of the situation.
  • My very first class of students that I taught are off to college this fall. That's making me feel very old.
  • Ryan is busy with work and extremely busy playing baseball with Christian. I remember when Christian was just a few months old Ryan was worried about whether or not he would like to play baseball. Well, never fear! Ryan has created an obsession in our son. The boys played ball at least 6 times a day the entire weekend. Ryan would try to get some yardwork done and Christian would ask him about every other minute if he was ready to play catch yet. Everyday when Ryan gets home from work Christian grabs his glove and heads outside! Last night they were playing in the dark. I love it!!

12 Weeks

WooHoo!! I'm 12 weeks pregnant now! My word these last 12 weeks have felt like an eternity. I feel horrendous, but I'm hoping to turn the corner very soon. I am just unbelievably tired. I remember feeling like this when I was pregnant with Christian, so maybe I'm having a boy. I guess we'll see!!

Ryan has a four day weekend this weekend! I'm hoping to get some rest and hopefully he'll dig my maternity clothes out of the crawl space. I think I might need them sooner rather than later. If you've seen me lately you've probably noticed me wearing the same outfits over and over. Somehow I have managed to have two children and no summer maternity clothes. I might need to do something about that because the forecast says 90 degrees again for next week.

Well, I'm heading to bed. I just wanted to check in. Hope you have a great Labor Day weekend!!!
