PRAY for Will

Warning: This is graphic.

We've been on vacation or at least trying to have a vacation for the past couple days. Unfortunately it's been awful.

Last night around bedtime McKenna went in the bathroom of our condo in Myrtle Beach. She slammed the door to keep Will from coming in, but his hand was caught in the hinge side of the door. We knew something was immediately wrong because he has never ever screamed the way he did last night. Ryan picked him up and I pryed open his fist to see what was bleeding and that's when I realized that the top part of his pinkie finger was gone. Basically from the bottom of the nail bed where his finger nail starts up to the top is gone. There's really nothing left above the top joint of his finger.
I looked in the door frame and the piece of his finger was stuck there.
I made a split second decision to call the front desk and have them call 911 since I figured they could give better directions.
A manager was in our room in minutes and they had the resort security team in place.
I can't even describe what was going on with Will. It was awful. He was in tremendous pain. I can't even think about it to write it.
McKenna was sobbing. Christian was scared. I was just trying to comfort Will and Ryan was trying to pack a few things to take to the hospital.
The ambulance took about 10 minutes to arrive. A LONG 10 minutes.
The resort security stopped the traffic on Ocean Blvd. They were holding the elevator for us as soon as we walked out. Clearly they had done this before.
As soon as we got in the ambulance I started begging them to knock Will out. I couldn't stand it.
They really couldn't give him anything because of his age so I just started praying, out loud. Like serious praying.

It was one of those "call on the Name of the Lord" moments and I didn't care who was listening.
I specifically prayed for immediate miraculous relief from pain. I prayed that God would send ministering angels to touch Will in the Name of Jesus. I prayed that Will would fall asleep and two minutes later he relaxed and fell asleep. The paramedic said "wow, that's pretty unusual." And I said "Clearly this is an answer to prayer. There is no other explanation." Then the paramedic put it all in perspective for me and told me that his previous call was for a 4 year old drowning victim. He said they brought the child back but that she will never be the same. He said, "Maybe you should pray for her too." Very sad and I could tell the paramedic was shaken.  Will slept until the ER doctor had to look at his hand. Then it was BAD again and they gave him a nerve block so he wouldn't feel his finger.

The screaming and hyperventilating and thrashing around continued for awhile. He was scared. The doctor debated reattaching the finger and when he said he wasn't sure which direction to go, I prayed right there with him that he would have wisdom and discernment from God. He called for an ortho consult and they decided together that the finger tip was not viable. That was hard. I wanted them to fix it. The x-ray to check for bone damage didn't go very well, they couldn't get a very clear picture but they think it was okay, but put his finger in a splint just in case and also to protect it.

They cleaned it and wrapped it and discharged us around 1am. Ryan came with the kids to pick us up. McKenna slept through the whole thing. Christian was still awake. He was so worried. It was traumatic for all of us.

Will went to sleep around 1am and woke up screaming at 5:45am. The nerve block had worn off. We gave him Tylenol and Motrin and he went back to sleep until 9am. Not bad.   I can't seem to get him down for a nap right now, but for the most part he seems to not be in pain. He knows he had a boo boo hand and has quickly adjusted to doing things with just one hand. He's right handed and this injury is on his left hand, so that helps.

We are going to drive home tonight. We looked into flights but honestly we don't want to spend the money. Our well went out last week, then we went on vacation and now we're going to have ambulance and ER bills. Our copay alone for the ER is $300. So we're just calling it even and ending this ridiculous vacation. We're hoping to drive through the night, so pray that everyone sleeps!!!!

We have an appointment on Wednesday (tomorrow) with a plastic surgeon. Will might need surgery because they could not close the wound. Starting tomorrow morning I'm supposed to do dressing changes on his finger twice a day. I have no idea how I'm going to do it. It's so terrible to see him in pain and twice a day just seems brutal, but we'll do it. It's definitely going to take two people...one to hold him down and one to do the actual dressing change. This is something we could be doing for months.

So here's the deal. I'm praying big! I would ask you to join me in praying for complete healing for Will's finger. It's not out of the realm of possibility that because of his age his finger could actually grow back. It's happened before and we are believing that it will happen for Will.

Act Chapter 3 tells the story of Peter and John healing a crippled beggar. They looked at the guy and said "in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth walk." and the guy got up and started dancing and praising God and everyone around them was amazed.

And this is what Peter said to the people;   "Men of Israel, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?  The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go.  You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you.  You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.  By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus' name and the faith that comes through him that has given this complete healing to him, as you can all see."

And it is in Jesus' name and the faith that comes through him that we are asking Jesus Christ to bring healing to our precious Will boy!! And when the Lord answers our prayer, we are not going to be surprised like the people in Acts! We are going to patiently wait on the Lord to do great and mighty things!!!!

oh girl....praying for all of you!!!!!! Ugh...I would have passed out and probably needed an ambulance ride myself! You are so right on the perspective...what's life without part of a finger when you still have your baby boy! He'll be fine, even if the thing never grows back. He's so darn cute anyway :)

Poor McKenna too, I am sure she did not mean to hurt Will and must feel awful about it. Praying that her little heart will heal too! Praying that you get good news from the plastic surgeon and that Will heals completely and as pain free as possible.

Praying...praying..praying! Praying for Will - that he has little to no pain especially during bandage changes. Praying his finger is not broken and that no surgery is needed and it heals without any complications. Praying for you as you process what happened and that God will give you peace. Praying that McKenna understands that this is just an accident and that God protects her heart. Praying that God gives Christian peace and he doesn't worry about this at all...he's such a wonderful big brother. Praying for Ryan and he begins the car drive home.

God is using this situation already for His glory. The EMT saw an immediate answer to prayer and now understands the power of prayer. Wow!!

Safe travels as you head home!!!
