An Update on Will

Didn't I just say that I was not going to be surprised or astounded if God did something amazing for Will??? Well, that was so naive of me to say. Clearly I had no idea what I was talking about because when God does show up in a big way like he is in our lives right now, it's basically completely overwhelming. "Astounding" doesn't even begin to describe it.

This morning my sweet friend Millicent's mom came over to help me do the dressing change. She's an ER nurse. Screaming kids and blood do not phase her. She was a-ma-zing!!! Will was a mess...screaming, crying, kicking, twisting and fighting us big time. When she got the dressing off Will's finger I was shocked at just how good it looked. Ryan couldn't believe it either. I honestly felt like my eyes were deceiving me. It was still bloody and he was screaming and thrashing around but it looked like there was a lot more tissue there than I remembered. Ryan agreed...that was not the same finger we saw 36 hours earlier. It was beginning to heal in a miraculous way.

When the plastic surgeon took the dressing off four hours later it wasn't even bleeding.  He thought it looked remarkably good based on what he had read in the hospital report. Now there is still a chunk of finger gone but the missing chunk has literally already started to fill in. I AM NOT EVEN KIDDING! Did you read that.....IT'S ALREADY BEGUN TO HEAL!!!

Oh guys...I can't stop crying..thank you for praying. Jesus is so real. As Ryan and I walked out of the office we kept marveling at what we had just seen. I don't think the surgeon would have believed us about how bad it was if he hadn't seen the hospital report himself.

So here's the deal. They are expecting Will to have an almost complete recovery in 3-4 weeks. They are expecting his finger to regenerate itself (which it is already doing). It will probably be slightly shorter than his other pinkie but it won't be noticeable. He could have some issues with his nail on that finger, but it also might be just fine. There is most likely some damage to the top of the bone, but in the surgeon's words, "It's not a big deal."  We will do dressing changes every 48 hours. Yipee!!! That's so much better than twice a day! So much better. Changing his dressing is absolutely brutal. We return to the surgeon in 6 days for him to take another look.

Side note: Some of you by reading my last post picked up on the fact that a certain sweet four year old in our house was responsible for this incident. I know that from your comments some of you have been praying for her and I'm so thankful. She is doing great. She was super sad at first. She cried and cried and said that Will didn't love her anymore. The night of the accident Ryan handled it well and assured her that accidents happen and that Will loved her. I talked to her about it the next day and assured her that it was not her fault. Then I said "Will do you love McKenna?" He ran right over to her and kissed her :) That's all it took for her to feel better. She has no idea how bad his finger was injured. She just thinks that he cut it and that is all she needs to know. Today she told me that Will is her best friend and that is the truth!

Will's sweet hand just a few hours before the accident!

Exhausted at the hospital from crying for so long.

Riding home from the hospital.

Playing trucks with Christian at 1 am. Christian just needed to know that he was okay.

Playing at the plastic surgeon's office today.

Psalm 107:1  "Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever."

Wow!!! Wow!! and Wow!!! God is so good! What a testimony this "adventure" has been to the medical professions involved. God uses all circumstances to reveal Himself to others. Little Will's finger is going to be the reason some come to know the Lord as Savior!

Giving thanks this morning!!!!

PS..praying for your Pastor too!!!
