she gets it!

McKenna was NOT feeling good tonight. She was moaning and crying about how her stomach hurt. I was trying to figure out what was wrong and was trying to comfort her, but she was pretty much miserable. So I suggested that she go sit on the potty (I know, I know TMI) and once I got her settled she said "Mommmm! Privacy!" She always says that. So I left her in the bathroom by herself and stood outside the door.

I could her her whimpering because her tummy hurt so bad and then I heard her precious little voice say "Jesus. I need you to help me. Jesus will you please make my tummy feel better?"

And I cried. It's the first time I've ever heard to pray other than at bedtime or dinner time. Do you know how huge that is?? It means that she gets it. She understands that when she's hurting Jesus can help her. She said to me the other day " So what does Jesus look like anyway?" I love it that He's real to her. That even at the age of three she has a relationship with him. That tiny mustard seed of faith is growing strong in her heart already!

Creation

"Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy; they will sing before the LORD." Psalm 96:11-13

"But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit." Jeremiah 17:7

"He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken."

Psalm 62:2

"God saw all that he had made, and it was very good."
Genesis 1:13

Recap of Christian's big day!

Christian was up bright and early on his birthday and since Ryan was still home he gave Christian his first present.....Mario Kart for the Wii! Christian was so thrilled he immediately headed to the basement to play and I went back to bed :)

Later we headed to Fuddruckers with Grandmom, PopPop and we met Daddy there for a birthday lunch! We had a great time and Christian loved his presents which included lots of Mario stuff.

Christian ended the day with a t-ball game!

It was the perfect day for our precious six year old!

Now he's ready....

for his big Indiana Jones birthday bash next week!

Now if only his mom were ready!!!

It's going to be cool! Complete with a crocodile creek, eye ball soup, an archaeological dig and they'll be rescuing para troopers from trees. Very cool and also a lot of work. He's already been informed that there will not be a party next year.

How do you handle the whole birthday party thing?? I just don't think kids need a friend party every year, but somehow we seem to end up having one anyway for Christian. Last year it was just one friend and 3 cousins, this year it's only slightly bigger but still a lot of expense and hassle. This is a fun party to plan this time around, so I don't mind. I just wish Ryan was going to be home to help me with it. I think he's going to be out of town. Bummer (do people still even use that word??) Next year I told him we're going to do something fun instead like go to an amusement park with just McKenna or Nathan (I have a feeling I know who he'll pick out of that pair)!

"Just like the Berenstain Bears"

We've posted a Summer to-do list in our house! I always make to-do lists of all the unpleasant things we need to accomplish each day. But the summertime is supposed to be fun and I need to be intentional about making it fun for my kids. I stole the idea from another mommy and I think it's a wonderful tradition! The kids and I had a grand time brainstorming all the things we "have" to do this summer!!
The first thing we crossed off our list was going to Cowans Gap (a local lake with a beach).

We picked the worst day. It was cool and rainy, not what the forecast had called for. But the kids had a grand time, even if the grown ups would like to forget the entire event.

Tonight we can cross another thing off our list. We put "bless our neighbors" on the list. We talked about several ways to do that and tonight we headed to the house on the corner that is bank owned. It looks horrendous and it totally bugs me every single time I drive by it. So we trimmed some bushes and some trees. The kids worked so hard (very rare) without complaining (extremely rare) and filled 3 huge trash bags full of sticks, clippings and branches. While we were working Christian said, "Don't you feel like the Berenstain Bears? They always help their neighbors." Yup! I totally felt like a Berenstain Bear! Now if only my kids would work at getting along like Brother and Sister Bear do! Papa Bear and I would be very happy about that!
